History of Central Park & Location
In may surprise you to know that Central Park in New York was actually completed way back in 1873, and today is among the world's great urban attractions and innovations. Situated between 5th avenue east, 8th avenue west, 59th street south and 110th street north, Central Park is massive, with 843 acres there are certainly plenty to and see.
Central Park Ice Skating
Apart from the wide open spaces and the Central Park Ice Skating rinks, the park also boasts horse and carriage rides and bicycle trails to suit all. The sportier won't be disappointed either with joggers and fitness enthusiasts being catered for too. However, if you're the type of person who enjoys life at a steadier pace, there a plenty of sculptures, bird varieties and of course beautiful lakes that provide plenty of relaxation opportunities for the 25 million people who flock to Central Park New York City all-year-round.
Horse and Carriage Rides in Central Park New York
Sprawled throughout Central Park is a 6 mile (10 kilometers) road which not only accommodates cars, but also the popular horse drawn carriage ride. This romantic activity for tourists and couples has been a must see favorite that began over 100 years ago. Although Central Park's horse drawn carriage ride is popular all throughout the year, it's perhaps even more appealing during the Fall (Autumn) when the many trees along route start to shed their leaves causing a beautiful gold and red environment that is sure to further enhance the romantic ride.
However, a point worth making here is that there are a few other roads that travel through the middle of Central Park. These roads are designed to make traveling across town easier, and although are restricted during certain times, you need to watch out for speeding taxis that could take you by surprise.
Central Park Zoo New York City
Another popular attraction is The New York Central Park Zoo. There you will have the opportunity to see such animals like Tarmin Monkeys, big cats and a whole host of other mammals and animals including Gus the polar bear. Along with Prospect Park Zoo situated in Brooklyn and Queens Zoo located in Queens, The New York Central Park Zoo is still considered one of New York's top attractions, and rightly so...
Central Park Museums
If your pleasure is history and in particularly art, then towards the edges of Central Park NYC you'll find several museums, including one of the world's most impressive storehouses of art: The Metropolitan Museum of Art situated in Fifth Avenue and eighty-second Street. Here you're sure to find a bargain as the art is extremely competitive and there is plenty to choose from. Be prepared to spend a day here if you really want to appreciate the six thousand year old collection.
Another popular visit that Central Park offers is The Natural History Museum. Located on the west side of Central Park between Seventy-Ninth Street and Central Park West you'll find a staggering collection of artifacts dating back millions of years.
Central Park Concerts
If music is your thing, then it may be worth planning your visit to coincide with when The Metropolitan Opera hosts one of it's two concerts per year. You may also find that The New York Philharmonic Orchestra may also be playing, as they often travel a block up the road to host an open-air concert in the park. Make sure you visit the famous ‘Tavern' at the ‘Green Restaurant' for quick tipple before the concert starts. Be warned though, you will need to reserve your seats well in advance; such is the popularity of this amazing restaurant.
